Nayagarh: A police constable working in Odisha’s Nayagarh district allegedly killed himself with his service pistol under mysterious circumstances on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sunil Sethi, a 2023-batch constable posted in the district and a native of Beruabari village under the jurisdiction of Odagaon police station.
His body was recovered from the terrace of the barracks at Nayagarh Reserve Police campus in the morning, police said.
His service pistol was recovered from the spot. Preliminary findings suggest that he fired a single shot at the right side of his head, leading to his death.
As per information, Sunil had got engaged to a woman of his choice on January 25, and the couple was planning to get married in the near future.
The incident has raised questions about the circumstances that may have driven the constable to take such a move. Police have launched an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the extreme step taken by the constable.
