Odisha: ‘Corrupt’ Fire Officer In Vigilance Net

Bargarh: Vigilance sleuths have caught an assistant fire officer (AFO) red-handed while taking bribe in Bargarh district.

The accused has been identified as Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra.

According to a release, one Hrushikesh Pradhan, the owner of a petrol pump at Kadalipali village near Bheden, complained to Vigilance Division officials that Mohapatra  was demanding Rs 12,000 in bribe for issuing a fire-safety certificate.

Following the complaint, Vigilance officers laid a trap and nabbed the AFO accepting the bribe on Thursday.

The entire money was recovered and tested for the chemicals on the notes used to trap those accused of taking bribes.
While going to press, Vigilance sleuths were conducting raids at the accused AFO’s residence on the premises of Fire Office, Bargarh.
