Cuttack: The JMFC court in Odisha’s Cuttack on Thursday granted Karnataka Police a seven-day custody of Choudwar jailbreak accused Raja Sahani in connection with an alleged Rs 20 crore jewellery showroom heist in Mysuru.
According to sources, Sahani alias Subham has been handed over to Karnataka Police, who will interrogate him till April 15 over his alleged role in forming an organised gang and robbing a jewellery store in Mysuru in December 2025. Mysuru police have already arrested one member involved in disposing of the stolen valuables.
Sahani is a dreaded criminal with 28 cases pending against him across India. He and his accomplice Madhukant Rana alias Singh were arrested on January 4, 2025, for allegedly robbing a jewellery shop at Panikoili in Jajpur district, and killing two persons during the heist. However, they escaped from the high-security Choudwar Circle Jail by scaling the walls using a makeshift rope on October 2, 2025, exploiting a lapse in supervision during the Dussehra festivities.
On April 1, the 39-year-old native of Lohianagar in Bihar’s Begusarai district was finally nabbed by a special team of the Commissionerate police from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand following a sustained operation. Rana was earlier arrested from an ashram guesthouse in Vrindavan on February 13.
Besides Mysuru, Sahani, while on the run and operating under aliases such as Kamlesh Pandey and Subham, also attempted similar crimes at two locations near Visakhapatnam.
