Bhubaneswar: With the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections barely weeks away, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday announced the formation of 22 new notified area councils in 20 districts of Odisha.
Bhanjanagar NAC in Ganjam has also been upgraded to Municipality.
According to a CMO release, Manamunda, Purunakatak and Baunsuni in Boudh district, Loisingha and Sindhekela in Bolangir, Sohela in Bargarh, Baliapal and Khaira in Balasore, Dhamra in Bhadrak, Rasol in Dhenkanal, Narla and Madanpur Rampur in Kalahandi, Kujang in Jagatsinghpur, Bolagarh in Khurda, Sharankul in Nayagarh, Sakshigopal and Kakatpur in Puri, Rengali and Bamanda in Sambalpur, Subalya, Ulunda and Rampur in Sonepur district have been accorded NAC status.
It further said that the new NACs and municipality have been created in view of the public demand and increasing population and socio-economic development of the state. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the newly-formed councils would work for the overall development of the region.
Last month, the Odisha government announced 35 new NACs in 20 districts and five new municipalities in four districts. Boudhgarh (Boudh), Karanjia (Mayurbhanj), Kantabanji (Balangir), Chhatrapur and Aska (Ganjam) NACs were upgraded to municipalities.
