Odisha: Custodial Torture In Motu PS Alleged; Malkangiri SP Orders Probe
Malkangiri: Two youths were allegedly subjected to brutality in custody at Motu police station in Odisha’s Malkangiri. The incident came to light after they were admitted to hospital on Sunday evening.
According to reports, the two youths identified as Abhijit Biswas and Biplab Haldar of MV 81 village were first punished in a kangaroo court in their village in connection with a theft case. During the hearing in kangaroo court the two were severely beaten up by villagers. Later, police was informed.
Motu police picked them up the next day and kept them in custody, where the two were again beaten by the cops leaving them seriously injured. After four days in custody, the cops released them on Sunday.
The youths were admitted to MV-79 health centre in a critical condition on Sunday evening. The family members alleged torture by both villagers and police and demanded justice.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police has refuted the allegations of custodial torture and said the two were assaulted by villagers and handed over to police.
The local SDPO has been directed to conduct an inquiry and submit the report in this matter following a complaint by the family members of the two youth, said the SP.
Motu police station SI has reportedly been transferred.
