Koraput: Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Pravati Parida arrived in Koraput on Friday on the opening day of her five-day official tour of five key districts.
Soon after her arrival at Jeypore Airport, Parida was accorded a rousing welcome by a host of leaders, including representatives of women’s groups.
She expressed her heartfelt thanks to local leaders, officers, and other dignitaries for their grand welcome at the Airport.
During her Koraput visit, the Deputy CM is slated to tour the strategically important Kotia region to review the ongoing developmental activities being undertaken by the Odisha government. This marks her first official visit to Kotia after assuming office last year.
It may be noted that Parida has embarked upon a five-day tour of five key districts — Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, and Sonepur.
The visit will focus on assessing the progress of various flagship welfare schemes and development programs, with a special emphasis on women and child-centric initiatives.
On Saturday, the Deputy CM will participate in a ceremonial distribution of the third instalment under the Subhadra Yojana on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima in Koraput. The event is expected to draw a large gathering of women beneficiaries and Mission Shakti members.
Officials said that the one-time financial assistance will benefit more than one crore women across the state under the ambitious scheme.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to attend the Subhadra Yojana disbursement ceremony at Jeypore where elaborate arrangements are being made to ensure smooth conduct of the event. The programme is expected to draw large participation as beneficiaries await the third tranche under the flagship women’s financial empowerment scheme.
The Deputy CM told reporters that a review will be conducted on Friday in the Koita region. There are 26 Anganwadi centres in the panchayat and discussions will be held with the Anganwadi workers and Lakhpati Didis.
The Subhadra Yojana, launched to empower women through direct financial support, continues to be a key welfare initiative of the state government.
Regarding the two lakh applicants who have been excluded, Parida said their applications have been sent to the government and they need not re-apply. Those found eligible will get the benefits after verification.
Throughout the five-day tour, Parida will conduct detailed reviews of programs under the Women and Child Development, Mission Shakti, and Tourism departments. She will also assess the status of ongoing and upcoming projects in the districts and interact with local officials and stakeholders.
The visit comes amid renewed emphasis by the state government on grassroots implementation of women-focused schemes and tourism-led development in western and southern Odisha.
