Odisha DGP Gets Six Months Extension
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday extended the tenure of Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay by six months.
The decision of the state government to extend the tenure of Abhay came in response to the directive of the Supreme Court, which mandated that the tenure of the state DGP should be at least two years.
As Abhay was scheduled to retire in June 2021, the state government, in accordance with the apex court guidelines and the recommendation by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) extended his tenure by six months up to December 31, 2021, for completion of his two-year term in the office.
Notably, the state government had appointed Abhay as the DGP on November 20, 2019, and the 1986-batch IPS officer had taken charge of his new assignment on December 10.
