Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police is making elaborate security arrangements for the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to be held at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10.
Ahead of the high-profile event, a review meeting, chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, was held here on Saturday to assess preparations for organising the event smoothly and efficiently.
The arrangements to be made by the police for the three-day event were discussed threadbare at the meeting. The conference will host several VVIPs including senior Union Ministers, overseas Indians, and dignitaries from the Ministry of External Affairs, an official release said.
In view of the importance of the event, DGP Khurania directed the police to ensure comprehensive security arrangements. Detailed reviews were conducted regarding the security of VVIPs, seating arrangements for dignitaries and guests, safety of participants at the venue, vehicle parking facilities, and other logistical preparations.
The police chief also emphasised the importance of ensuring the safe and comfortable stay of guests at various hotels. He ordered regular inspections of hotels in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara, and other districts, with instructions to maintain records of all guests and oversee their security.
Besides, security measures in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri are being intensified as many overseas attendees are expected to visit tourist sites in Odisha. The DGP instructed proper management of CCTV systems in key cities and called for streamlined traffic management during the event.
The meeting was attended among others by including Director (Intelligence) R P Koche, ADG (Modernisation) S K Priyadarshi, ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, ADG (Headquarters) Dayal Gangwar, Commissioner of Police (Cuttack-Bhubaneswar) S Dev Datta Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police Umashankar Dash, DIG (Central Region) Charan Singh Meena, DCP (Bhubaneswar) Pinak Mishra, SP (State Headquarters) Batula Gangadhar, and DCP (Cuttack) Jagmohan Meena.
