Bhubaneswar: The mortal remains of founder-cum-chairman of SAI International Education Group Bijaya Kumar Sahoo, who died of post COVID complications, were consigned to flames with full state honours here on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Sahoo’s body arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport from Hyderabad around 11.30 am. Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi received the mortal remains along with Sahoo’s family members.
The body was taken to SAI International Residential School, Cuttack and from there it was brought to SAI International School where the staff and teachers paid their last respects.
Later, the body was taken to his Shastri Nagar residence where BMC Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh; Sports and Tourism Secretary, Vishal Dev; Principal Secretary MSME, Satyabrata Sahu and Secretary to Governor, PK Meherda along with family and friends paid their last tributes to the departed soul.
The last rites were performed at Satya Nagar crematorium in adherence to COVID guidelines. Khurda Collector Sanat Kumar Mohanty; Bhubaneswar DCP Uma Shankar Dash and Khurda ADM Manoj Kumar Padhi were present.
The Advisor-cum-Working President of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (OAVS) succumbed to post-COVID complications at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Expressing grief over the death, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted, “Deeply saddened to know about the passing away of noted educationist and entrepreneur, Dr. Bijaya Kumar Sahoo. As Advisor of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan, he had a pioneering role in transforming Govt School education. My condolences to his family, friends and students.”
