Bhubaneswar: The Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office issued a notification for the bypoll for the Pipili Assembly seat on Tuesday.
According to the notification, the filing of nomination will be held from March 23 to March 30.
The verification of the nominations will be done on March 31 while the April 3 is the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations.
Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm and the counting of votes and the results will be announced on May 2.
The by-election to Pipili constituency was necessitated after the death of BJD MLA and former minister Pradeep Maharathy on October 4,2020.
It may be mentioned that in the Assembly elections held in Pipili in 2019, BJD’s Maharathy had defeated his BJP rival Ashrit Pattanayak by 14,787 votes. While Maharathy received 88,518 votes (50.66%), Pattanayak received 72,731 votes (41.62%).
However, the Congress candidate Ajit Mangaraj had fared miserably bagging only 9830 votes (5.63%).
