Bhubaneswar: Even as Odisha’s chief electoral officer has ordered probe into a BJD MLA’s attack on voters in Angul district, another leader of the ruling party has faced similar allegation by a woman voter in Dhenkanal.
The woman, in a police complaint, stated that she had gone to cast her vote at a booth in Rasol under Hindol constituency in the district during the third round of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections on Saturday.
“The BJD leader, who was present at the booth at the time, told the women voters to vote for his party. As I opposed him, the leader, who runs illegal liquor trade in Rasol, attacked me. I sustained fracture in my hand and injuries on head,” she told the media persons.
Stating that she had filed a complaint against the BJD leader in Rasol police station, the woman demanded his arrest as she feared threat to her life.
Senior BJP leader and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took up the matter. In a post in his X handle, the minister condemned the incident. He also shared a video of the attack on the woman. He said the Director General of Police (DGP) should take note of the incident and initiate necessary action against the accused.
“Violence has no place in democracy. The people of Odisha will not tolerate the hooliganism of the BJD leaders. They will give befitting reply to the ruling party in the elections,” he said.
It may be noted that the CEO has asked Angul collector to investigate into the attack on a BJP worker by Chhendipada MLA Sushant Behera at a booth in Simili Sahi under Kosala panchayat of Angul district under Sambalpur parliamentary constituency during the third round of elections on May 25.
