Odisha Elections 2024: BJD Seeks ECI Action Against BJP Workers For Attack On Villager In Bargarh
Bhubaneswar: The BJD has sought action from chief electoral officer (CEO) against BJP workers for the attack on a villager in Padampur Assembly constituency of Odisha’s Bargarh district.
In a complaint submitted to the CEO on Monday, a delegation of the BJD said Dayanidhi Suna of Sargibahal village under Sargibahal panchayat in the constituency was brutally attacked by supporters of BJP’s MLA candidate for Padampur Gobordhan Bhoy.
“Suna was severely injured in the attack near Panchabhaya booth. The BJP workers also threatened him of life before leaving the place,” the BJD delegates said.
“We are gravely concerned about the safety of Suna and the repercussions of the incident on the electorate in Padampur. The perpetrators of the violent incident should be identified and brought to justice. We urge the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take strict and immediate action against those responsible for this heinous act,” they added.
The BJD leaders also requested for comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and security of all voters
and candidates in the constituency. “It is essential that the environment is free from fear and intimidation so that every citizen can exercise their right to vote without any hindrance. We appeal to the authorities to deploy adequate security forces in sensitive areas and monitor the situation closely to prevent any further incidents of violence,” they said.
They appealed to the CEO to launch a thorough investigation into the activities of the BJP workers involved in the incident. Their actions and possible plans to disrupt the electoral process through intimidation or violence should be looked into by the authorities, they said.
