Odisha Elections 2024: BJP Demands Repolling In 2 Booths Of Kantamal Assembly Seat
Bhubaneswar: Odisha unit of BJP has demanded repolling in two booths of Kantamal Assembly constituency in Boudh district for alleged large scale violence by BJD workers.
A delegation of BJP, led by former state president of party Samir Mohanty, submitted a petition in this regard to chief electoral officer (CEO) on Tuesday. They alleged that booth number 26 and 29 in the constituency were captured by BJD workers and their hired goons during second phase of polling in the state on May 20.
“The miscreants resorted to large scale violence and forcibly captured the two booths in the presence of polling officials and police deployed there. As they created an atmosphere of fear, the voters including BJP workers could not cast their votes,” the BJP delegates said.
They further said while the polling in booth number 28 under the same constituency was held up due to violence, the election officials and police did not take similar step in case of both numbers 26 and 29. Since the presiding officer of the two booths was associated with ruling BJD, no official action has been taken and efforts were being made to suppress the truth, they added.
“We have submitted our complaint with evidence to the CEO and demanded repolling in the two booths as a large number of voters could not cast their votes out fear,” said the BJP leaders.
