Bhubaneswar: A BJP worker, who was hospitalised following an assault, has accused some BJD supporters of attacking him after he opposed them for creating disturbances during polling in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
The BJP worker, identified as Subhabrat Panda of Gadhadharpur under Nakatideula block of the district, had gone to cast his vote in a booth in the village during third phase of polling in the state.
Panda was attacked during a disturbance created by some people inside the booth. As he sustained serious injuries and started bleeding, the locals rushed him to a nearby hospital. Later, a team from Nakatideula police station went to the spot and registered a case on the matter.
Following treatment, Panda told the media persons that when he went to the booth, some BJD workers were creating disturbances in the polling process. They were also distributing money among the voters outside the booth to vote for BJD.
Panda, who has identified the assailants, said, “They attacked me as I opposed them for creating disturbances. They also threatened to eliminate me after I returned home. I feel threat to my life.”
