Bhubaneswar: Hours after BJP demanded re-polling in two booths of Kantamal Assembly seat in Odisha’s Boudh district over alleged irregularities, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued an order in the party’s favour on Tuesday.
In a press release, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Bihari Dhal said repolling will be held at booth numbers 26 and 28 in Kantamal Assembly segment under Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency on May 23. The repolling order has been issued on the direction of the Election Commission, he added.
“The voting will be held in the two booths from 7 am to 4 pm on May 23. Direction has been issued to the district election officer-cum-collectors of Boudh and Kandhamal districts to inform all the candidates of Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency and Kantamal Assembly constituency and voters of the said booths regarding re-polling,” the CEO said in the release.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of BJP, led by former state president of the party Samir Mohanty, submitted a petition to chief electoral officer for re-polling. They alleged that booth number 26 and 29 in the constituency were captured by BJD workers and their hired goons during second phase of polling in the state on May 20.
