Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS Ashish Kumar Singh reached the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar on Thursday for medical examination as per the direction of Election Commission of India (ECI) amid the twin polls in Odisha.
The ECI had ordered a detailed medical examination of Singh, IG (CM Security) by a ‘special medical board constituted by Director AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
The report on the detailed examination of Singh, who has been on medical leave since May 4, should reach the Commission latest by May 31, the ECI has said.
The ECI had also ordered suspension of Special Secretary to CMO DS Kutey in a bid to “curb undue influence on the election machinery and maintaining the level playing field and fairness in the electoral process.”
Sources said Singh is undergoing though examination by a special medical board formed by AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
Complying with the direction of the ECI, a special medical board has been formed by AIIMS Bhubaneswar for the health checkup of 2010-batch IPS officer.
Sources said the six-member committee will be chaired (Prof.) Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The medical board consisting of specialist doctors from various departments will check the health of Singh and submit a report to the Election Commission by May 31.
In view of the general elections in the state, the Election Commission had on April 2 removed Singh from the post of Central Range Police IG and ordered him to refrain from taking part in election-related activities. The state government then appointed him as IG (Chief Minister’s Security).
On April 5, BJP again wrote against Singh to the ECI, alleging that IPS officer continued to work in favour of the BJD even after the Commission’s reprimand and changed orders.
The Election Commission took a tough stance against Singh after observing that he was on leave from May 4 citing ill health and ordered his health check-up.
