Rourkela: Further intensifying Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) campaign for the twin elections in Odisha, party chief and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed a series of poll rallies and mounted a scathing attack on opposition parties.
Beginning his campaign at a public meeting in the steel city of Rourkela in Sundargarh district, the BJD supremo stepped up his attack on opposition parties, mainly BJP, and accused them of telling lies to the people.
Accusing the opposition of shedding crocodile tears for the people of Odisha, the Chief Minister appealed to people to vote for BJD without relying on the opposition.
“The opposition is telling only lies and shedding crocodile tears,” he said, accusing the BJP-led Central government of neglecting Odisha and its people.
Stating that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made a number of promises to the people of Odisha before previous elections, Naveen alleged that despite being in power at the Centre for the last ten years, it has done nothing for the state and its development.
Reiterating BJD’s promise of providing free power up to 100 units, the Chief Minister reminded the public that if regional party is voted to power, the people will not get electricity bill from the month of July, this year. “This will be Naveen Patnaik’s electricity guarantee,” the BJD supremo said, seeking wholehearted support from the people for party candidates.
Listing out the development and welfare schemes being implemented by the BJD government in the state, the CM sought people’s opinion about Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), Mission Shakti, Mamata Yojana, Laxmi Bus and Kalia scheme for farmers. He sought to know whether people consider these schemes good.
After winding up the BJD campaign in Rourkela, the Chief Minister proceeded to attend poll rallies at three Assembly segments under Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency. The BJD chief is slated to attend rallies at Athamallik, Chhendipada and Deogarh to garner support for the candidates of the regional party.
Accompanying the CM, V K Pandian said the Chief Minister has taken Rourkela to the top of development. New Rourkela will be built by Naveen Patnaik.
Accusing leaders of opposition of visiting the state during elections like tourists, he said they make false promises and leave. After the election, they are no longer seen while the CM is always with the people.
