Bhubaneswar: Bhaatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused Biju Janata Dal (BJD) of misusing government machinery in violation of the model code of conduct ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha and sought immediate intervention of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to put a halt to this.
A BJP delegation led by state party vice president Lekhashree Samantsinghar visited the office of the CEO in Bhubaneswar and submitted a memorandum alleging blatant violation of model code of conduct by the ruling BJD in the state for electoral gains.
The BJP leaders urged the CEO to take necessary steps to ensure free and fair elections and prevent the ruling BJD from misusing police and administrative machinery.
Though the model code of conduct is in force, the BJD government has made arrangements for a foreign tour of leaders of women self help groups (SHG) in blatant violation of the poll code, BJP leaders claimed.
Accusing BJD of engaging women members of SHGs for party works, they urged the CEO to take appropriate action.
Hitting out at the ruling party, Lekhashree alleged that BJD leaders and workers are indulging in violence and attacking BJP workers in different places. Murderous attack was made on a BJP leader in Keonjhar recently, but the police took no action and allowed the culprits to go scot-free, she claimed.
Moreover, many government officials have been posted in different places of Cuttack, Bhadrak and Ganjam districts for long years, definitely more than three years, she claimed, demanding immediate steps to transfer these officials.
