Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Odisha, on Wednesday arrested a couple for an alleged Rs 1.3 crore bank fraud from Patia in Bhubaneswar.
The accused have been identified as Ashirbad Pattnaik and his wife Manogyan Pattnaik.
They were arrested on the basis of a written complaint by Sushant Nayak, Regional Head, Financial Crime Prevention Group, ICICI Bank Ltd, Bhubaneswar, alleging that the duo fraudulently availed a loan of Rs 1.05 crore from ICICI Bank’s Link Road branch in Cuttack by mortgaging properties, two flats and one duplex in Bhubaneswar, that were already pledged to Indian Bank for a cash credit loan of Rs 3.79 crore in the name of “AB Solutions” in 2018, an EOW release said.
Ashirbad was running the proprietorship firm at Jaydev Vihar, Bhubaneswar. In the meantime, he sold one of the mortgaged flats to one Leena Appicatlaa.
The fraud came to the fore when Indian Bank proceeded to take possession of this flat due to default in loan repayment. The bank also took possession of the other two mortgaged properties. “Thus, ICICI Bank made wrongful loss of the outstanding loan amount of Rs 1.3 crore till January 2025 due to the deceitful act of the accused persons by using forged documents,” it said.
Several incriminating documents – fake sale deeds and loans documents both from Indian Bank and ICICI Bank – were seized during investigation, it added.
