Odisha: Ex-DSWO Jayanti Behera Found With Assets Worth 145% More Than Income, Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested former District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Bhadrak, Jayanti Behera, who is currently posted at W & CD Department in Bhubaneswar, for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 145% more than her known sources of income.

One additional SP, 4 DSPs, 8 inspectors and other staff carried out simultaneous searches at 11 places in Bhubaneswar, Balasore and Bhadrak on Thursday and unearthed movable and immovable assets worth crores of rupees registered in the name of Behere and her two sons.

ASSETS UNEARTHED

1) A triple-storey building over 4007 sqft plinth area at Ganeswarpur, Balasore.

2) Another triple-storey building over 5466 sqft plinth area at Firingipatna, Balasore.

3) A double-storey building over 1140 sqft plinth area at Ganeswarpur, Balasore.

4) A 3-BHK Flat at Utkal Royal Residency, Goutam Nagar, Bhubaneswar, worth over Rs 51 lakh.

5) Another 3-BHK Flat at Old Town, Bhubaneswar.

6) 8 plots in prime areas of Balasore.

4) 2.112 kg silver ornaments

5) Rs 2.79 lakh in cash.

6) Bank, postal & insurance deposits of over Rs 1.61 crore

7) A four-wheeler (Maruti Baleno-Altura) & a two wheeler (Suzuki GLX & Passion Plus).

8) Gold jewellery and household articles worth over Rs 7.39 lakh

“After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Behera were calculated and she was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 145% in excess of her known sources of income. Investigation of the case is in progress,” a Vigilance release said.
