Bhubaneswar: Amid reports of liquor being sold at higher prices in some places, the Odisha government on Friday warned that stringent action will be taken against vendors found overcharging.
Noting that liquor was found to be sold at higher rates in some places in the state, Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the retail liquor dealers have no right to charge more than the maximum retail price (MRP).
If the liquor shops are found selling stock at prices higher than the MRP, strict action will be taken against the owners, he said.
Some cases of liquor overcharging were reported from Ganjam district, following which the government has taken quick action, the Minister said, adding that if such cases are found in anywhere in future, stringent action will be taken against the liquor dealers.
The state government’s proactive approach seeks to curb illegal pricing practices and ensure fair trade in the retail liquor market.
