Odisha: Family Court Begins Final Examination In Anubhav-Varsha Marital Discord Case

Cuttack: The family court in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Monday started the final round of hearings in the Varsha Priyadarshini-Anubhav Mohanty’s divorce case.

Besides examiniation of Varsha, statements of both parties are being recorded, sources said.

Citing inordinate delay in the family court proceedings, actor-turned-politician Anubhav had moved the HC, which then on July 13 directed for concluding both sides’ arguments within four weeks and disposing of the case in three months (October-end).

The matter has been pending before the family court here for over two years.

Six years after their marriage in 2014, Anubhav had filed the divorce petition in a Delhi court in July 2020. Later, the case was transferred to the family court in Cuttack on the direction of the Supreme Court. Varsha had appealed to the apex court to transfer the case from Delhi to Cuttack on the ground that she was staying in the Odisha city.

In 2020, Varsha had filed a domestic violence case in the court of Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate of Cuttack against her husband under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act and also accused him of financial treachery. She filed another case in the family court under Section 9 of the Hindu Marriage Act, in which she, as an aggrieved party, had sought a decree of restitution of conjugal rights.

Recently, in a video shared on his Facebook account, Anubhav said he would celebrate his birthday on the day he is granted divorce from his estranged wife, Varsha. “On my divorce day, I will celebrate my birthday. My real birthday will be celebrated on the divorce day. I will get a new birth and new lease of life on that day,” he added.
