Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s first woman collector, Chandramani Narayan Swami, passed away at her residence in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. She was 81.
A native of Kerala, this Odisha-cadre IAS officer began her career in September 1964 as Assistant Collector in Puri district and later served as the ADM in Ganjam district and Collector of Kalahandi district.
She was posted in the General Administration Department for seven years in two spells and in the Health Department for four years. She also held various secretary posts in the departments of Agriculture, Panchayati Raj and Revenue. She served six years in the Central Vigilance Commission while on central deputation. She was also the chairperson of the Board of Revenue in Odisha.
Swami took VRS from service in 1994 citing health reasons of her mother and aunt.
An ardent devotee of Lord Jagannath, she had made a will to donate her properties to Him after her demise.
