Odisha Floods: Schools Shut In 4 Districts, Holiday Extended To Saturday In Two

Bhubaneswar: All government and private schools in Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts remained closed on Friday as a precautionary measure amid the ongoing flood situation in Odisha.

The administration in Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur have further extended the holiday to Saturday for all government and private educational institutions in those two districts. The decision aims to prioritise the safety of students and school staff as floodwaters continue to impact several areas.

The closures come against the backdrop of severe flooding triggered by incessant rains linked to a weather system over the Bay of Bengal, which has led to rivers such as the Baitarani swelling and breaches in embankments like the Kani River in Jajpur, inundating residential and agricultural lands.

Relief and evacuation efforts have been underway in affected zones, while school buildings in some districts have been readied for potential emergency use with staff on roster duties.
