Odisha Forms Panel To Develop State Curriculum For NEP 2020 Implementation

Bhubaneswar: A day after notifying implementation of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 at school-level, the Odisha government on Thursday formed a panel to develop the state curriculum framework in alignment with the national curriculum framework with local conceptualisation.

The 16-member State Steering Committee will be headed by Prof Nityananda Pradhan, former principal of Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Bhopal.

The other members are as follows:

Sources said that the new curriculum will first be prepared for the primary level classes in alignment with the NIPUN Odisha mission, which aims to strengthen foundational skills, with help of NCERT.

On Wednesday, the School and Mass Education department informed that NEP-2020 will be implemented in the state for strengthening of the educational system and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) with local contextualisation will be adopted as the State Curriculum Framework for Odisha.

Odisha will make a transition from exam-centric 10+2 to 5+3+3+4 pedagogical structure In school education, focusing on age-specific learning and evaluation. “It will be done in a phased manner and in the first phase, the shift will be implemented in the foundational stage in the upcoming new academic session of 2025-26,” Commissioner-cum-secretary, School and Mass Education, Shalini Pandit told the media.

In November, the government had given the go-ahead to introduce the NEP in the state’s higher education system.

Major reforms in Higher Education under NEP 2020 include multidisciplinary education, integrated 5 year Bachelor’s/Master’s, 3/ 4 year UG Programme, 1/2 year PG Programme and single regulator for higher education (excluding legal & medical).
