Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha police has seized properties worth over Rs 3 crore illegally acquired by two ganja smugglers of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
“A competent authority under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act confirmed the freezing/seizing order on July 26,” an official release said.
The ganja smugglers have been identified as Banmali Pradhan and Arun Kumar Pradhan of Buguda area in Ganjam district.
An investigation into the siblings’ antecedents was ordered after the seizure of 106 kg ganja and 517 grams of opium from their possession on April 29, 2022.
The probe revealed that Arun and Banamali had allegedly acquired assets to the tune of over Rs 3 crore with ill-gotten money from drug trafficking in the last six years. These include five commercial buildings at Buguda, eight landed properties, deposits in 19 accounts of different banks, two vehicles and gold ornaments weighing 595 grams, it added.
