Bhubaneswar: With its status changed from a Cluster University to a Unitary University, Khallikote University will now be focusing on intensive research activities.
“Khallikote University is not functioning as per the true spirit of a Cluster University. It is felt necessary to rather convert the Khallikote University into a Unitary University, which will focus on intensive research activities so as to evolve as a research-intensive University of Odisha,” a notification issued by the Higher Education Department on Wednesday said.
The five constituent colleges under Khallikote University have been asked to re-affiliate to the Berhampur University with effect from June 1, 2020. The existing students, however, will continue under the Cluster University till completion of their courses, the notification said.
On May 30, 2015, the Odisha government had established this Cluster University in Berhampur, by altering the territorial jurisdiction of Berhampur University. Khallikote College, SBRG College, Binayak Acharya College, Government Science College, and Gopalpur Degree College were affiliated to it.
The unitary universities have a single campus, offer both postgraduate and undergraduate courses and give strong emphasis on research activities.
