Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to bring about a series of reforms in the Plus II streams, which includes making 75 per cent attendance mandatory for students.

“If any student fails to secure 75 per cent attendance, he or she will not be promoted to the second year. Apart from this, a proposal has been given to the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) to incorporate 20-30 per cent subjects of the first year in the second year final examinations so that the students will have to focus on the subjects in the first year,” School and Mass Education minister Samir Ranjan Dash said here on Saturday.

The minister said that most of the first-year students are found skipping classes and yet promoted to the second year. They remain away from colleges. The mandatory attendance will ensure students attend classes regularly and focus on studies.

Notably, there were zero results in three Plus Two junior colleges in 2017. While there were no zero results in the state in 2018, the number went up this year where nine colleges had zero results.

The State government had earlier announced to conduct two annual examinations in the Plus II streams. However, the decision is yet to be implemented.
