Odisha Govt Asks Universities To Help Students From Strife-Torn Manipur

Bhubaneswar: All government and private universities in Odisha have been asked to help students from strife-torn Manipur to continue education or take admissions here without any hardships.

In a letter to all the universities on Thursday, the Higher Education Department sought details of Manipuri students on their campuses, issues being faced by them in wake of the clashes in their homeland and remedial measures being taken by the institutions in addressing their problems. The universities have been asked to help these students in the best way possible.

This came amid a request in this regard from Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey and Manipur chief secretary Vineet Joshi.

On July 16, Manipur governor wrote to her counterpart in Odisha, Ganeshi Lal, requesting for cooperation to ensure that the students of the strife-torn state do not face any hardship in their academic pursuit. “I am very much concerned about the welfare of the students and I would like to ensure that the students are not adversely affected in their educational activities at this critical juncture and unforeseen circumstances,” said Uikey.

Similarly, chief secretary of Manipur Vineet Joshi in a letter to principal secretary of Higher Education department Aravind Agarwal on June 1 had requested for extension of the last date of submission of application forms in respect to students belonging to Manipur. Since the internet ban was likely to continue for more days, Joshi requested Agarwal to issue advisories to allow students from Manipur to submit application forms in hard copies through postal or courier services.

“Needless to say, such a gesture would go a long way in helping students get admissions to prestigious educational establishments in your state,” Joshi wrote.
