Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday announced curtailment of summer vacation in higher educational intuitions and universities.
The vacation will now be allowed for a brief period from June 1 to June 16, the department informed in its latest notification, adding that the decision to cut down summer break was taken to compensate for the academic days lost on account of COVID-19 related dislocation.
“With such curtailment, higher education institutions are expected to complete all academic activities in time. If needed, extra classes should be held on holidays and working days by suitably extending teaching hours,” the notification read.
Teachers and other employees will be entitled for additional proportionate earned leave in lieu of the curtailment of summer vacation, it added.
Earlier, summer vacation in schools across the state was reduced from 50 to 0nly 10 days to help students to catch up with their studies as schools were closed due to COVID-19.
