Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has directed all district collectors to immediately ensure distribution of pucca houses to homeless families covered under flagship rural housing schemes.
The state’s Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department Secretary Girish S N has written to the collectors stating that all eligible landless beneficiaries should be allotted a house site on priority, reported PTI.
Block development officers (BDOs) have been instructed to hold meetings with concerned tahsildars on the first Saturday of every month to resolve issues.
These meetings are necessary as allotment delays directly affect the timeline for issuing housing sanctions and starting of construction.
According to reports cited in the letter, 871 beneficiaries under PMAY-G in 11 of the 30 districts are still awaiting allotment.
Similarly, 50 beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) in Deogarh, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj are waiting for allocation of land for construction of houses.
In the Awaas+ 2024 survey under PMAY-G, over 2 lakh households were identified as landless.
