Bhubaneswar: In a major move to broaden opportunities for aspiring teachers, the state government has decided to extend eligibility for the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) under Category II to candidates who have completed a two-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course in Special Education.
As per official announcement, candidates holding a 2-year B Ed (Special Education) qualification will now be permitted to appear for OTET Category–II. This marks a major expansion of eligibility criteria
Earlier, only aspirants who had completed a one-year B.Ed (Special Education) course were considered eligible for this examination.
As per sources, the move is in line with evolving teacher education norms and to ensure a larger pool of trained and qualified teachers, particularly in the field of special education. The move is also expected to address the growing demand for educators trained to work with children with special needs.
The OTET serves as a mandatory qualification for appointment of teachers in government and government-aided schools in the State. With this latest decision, the government has reiterated its commitment to enhancing teacher availability and promoting inclusive education across Odisha.
