Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has hiked the salary of sarpanchs in the state by 25 per cent. The government has also hiked salaries drawn by other members of the Panchayati Raj institutions in the state.
The hikes will be effective from April 1, 2020, the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department said in an order on Thursday.
As per the order, the salary of a sarpanch has been hiked from Rs 1,880 to Rs 2,350. Similarly, a naib-sarpanch will now draw a salary of Rs 940 as against Rs 750 earlier.
Similarly, the salaries of panchayat samiti members and block chairmen have been raised from Rs 2,820 to Rs 3,530. Zilla parishad members will now draw Rs 7,040 as against Rs 5,630 earlier. The salary of a zilla parishad chairman has been hiked to Rs 9,380 from Rs 7,500.
