Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has signed an MoU with Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal Trust (SVKM) for establishment of NMIMS University at Gaudakashipur in Jatni.
“NMIMS University to be set up at Gaudakashipur in Jatni will reserve 30% of the total seats for meritorious students from Odisha. The institute will have courses from KG to PG level which will give further boost to quality education in the state,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in a post on X.
The MoU was signed on Tuesday in the presence of Higher Education Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and other dignitaries in a programme held at Lok Seva Bhawan. The campus development and other facilities will be done in a phased manner and the Higher Education Department will reimburse the cost of land to Idco with an initial investment of Rs 300 crore for the first phase.
“This collaboration between the Government of Odisha and SVKM represents a transformative initiative in expanding educational horizons within the state by establishing a world-class educational campus near the temple city of Odisha catering to diverse academic needs, aligning with Odisha’s commitment to elevating the quality of higher education,” the Minister said.
The responsibility shared in bearing expenses underscores the joint commitment to fostering an environment conducive to growth and knowledge dissemination, he added.
According to official sources, the state government has allocated 40 acres of land on lease at Goudakashipur, Jatni, for establishment of this university free of cost and free registration for an initial period of 30 years, extendable for another 30 years and free from annual maintenance charges of Idco.
