Bhubaneswar: In view of increasing number of human-elephant conflict incidents in the State, the Odisha government has issued new guidelines to monitor the movement of elephants.
The office of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden, Odisha, has directed all the DFOs to follow the revised guidelines scrupulously and monitor the movement of elephants as to reduce man-elephant conflict.
As per the guidelines issued on Thursday, the overall responsibility of control room will rest with the DFO, who will coordinate with various stakeholders like Railways and Electricity department
The range will be a basic unit for monitoring elephant movement. The forest officials have been directed take up anti-depredation activities if required by mobilizing locals and resources available with them.
