Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to construct a mega ring road in conformity with its concept of triple cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri.
This was announced by Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister of Housing and Urban Development on Tuesday. The government took the decision considering rapidly rising population and habitation areas in the three cities, he said.
The proposed ring road will provide alternative connectivity to the state capital with Cuttack and Puri. “We are conceptualising the ring road in coordination with the Works department and Revenue and Disaster Management department. The idea is to expand the city area while accommodating the growing population,” TOI quoted Mahapatra as saying.
He further said the coming year would see a lot of development works and the ring road and the triple city initiative would remain top priority of the government. The work on the project would start soon, he added.
According to sources, the Works department and other stakeholders including the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) had planned a ring road with a length of 64.9 km in the BDA’s planning area. But the work on the project could not start due to problems in land acquisition.
However, the land problem is expected to be resolved as the BDA has brought the proposed ring road sites with town planning scheme so that there will be no need to go for land acquisition, the sources added.
