Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has initiated steps for increasing the monthly remuneration of Anganwadi workers in the state.

Sharing this information, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said that she has placed a demand in this regard before the Union Women and Child Development Ministry.

Parida, who holds Women and Child Development portfolio, put forward the demand on behalf of the state government during a workshop held recently at Udaipur in Rajasthan. The state government aims at enhancing the efficiency of Anganwadi centres, she said.

This apart, a proposal has also been placed before the Central government for setting up of hostels for working women in the state, the Deputy CM said.

The proposals presented by the state are under the consideration of the Union Women and Child Development Ministry, she added.

It may be noted that previous government had announced an increase in monthly remuneration and other social security benefits of Anganwadi workers and their assistants in February last year before Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state. The monthly salary of Anganwadi workers was then raised from Rs 7,500 to Rs 10,000, and that of Mini Anganwadi workers from Rs 5,378 to Rs 7,250 and Anganwadi Sahayikas from Rs 3,750 to Rs 5,000, sources said.
