Bhubaneswar: After unveiling an AI policy earlier this year, the Odisha government is now planning to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the school curriculum,
This was announced by Electronics and IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling stated during the Regional AI Impact Summit being held in the capital city on Friday. “I have told the Chief Secretary that we should introduce AI from the school curriculum to the highest levels of education. AI tools can also be used for research. Government officials in the e-governance mechanism should be well-versed in AI module for better governance,” Mahaling said addressing the summit.
The Minister stated Odisha has become the first state in the country to approve an AI policy this year. He added, “Our Chief Minister has approved significant funding for AI Mission for 2025-26. Odisha AI Mission will accelerate the rapid adoption and usage of AI technologies across the Odisha in all sectors. Odisha is poised to become an AI hub in India.”
The Minister stated the preparedness of the state government to use AI tools across 41 departments including education, disaster management, health, parliamentary affairs, culture, women and child welfare, among others for effective governance aided by technology.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi addressed the summit through video conference. In his video message, the CM said, “AI will drive governance reforms and sustainable development. Odisha is committed to the responsible adoption of AI to improve public service delivery and enhance efficiency across sectors and empower citizens.”
Majhi further reiterated that the regional summit has 2 key objectives. Firstly, it aligns with the India AI Impact Summit to be held in February 2026 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Secondly, the conference revolves around the central theme of sustainability and inclusive growth with a strong emphasis on ‘Democratization of AI Resources’ assigned to Odisha under the India AI 2026 Summit framework, in which Odisha is one of the 8 elected states.
On its sidelines, the CM launched the Odisha AI mission portal at Lok Seva Bhawan on Friday.
