Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has projected COVID-19 cases in the second wave at 2.02 lakh with daily cases rising to 13,000 by May 15.
Making the projection of daily cases on the basis of reported cases from the beginning of the second wave on February 18 till Monday, the Health department put the figure at 13,249 at the growth rate of 1.57% on weekly basis, according to a TNIE report. The state has reported 90,135 cases in 2 weeks.
Similarly, the active cases will go up to 1.02 lakh by mid-May while 5,815 patients will be admitted to hospitals and 2,040 in ICU and 438 on ventilators, the department projected. At present, there are 2,942 patients in hospitals, 1,050 in ICU and 203 on ventilators in the state.
Though the projection has been made on the basis of cases till Monday with the state registering over 6,000 new infections for the past six days, the biggest single-day spike of 8,386 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday.
