Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to provide loan to landless farmers with strict implementation of the existing provisions.
Talking to mediapersons here on Friday, Cooperation minister Surya Narayan Patro said the loan would be disbursed among the landless farmers through the joint liability group.
He said like the self-help group (SHG), each joint liability group will comprise of five farmers who will be provided a term loan of Rs 50,000 with one percent interest.
Besides, small farmers having their own land will be provided the loan in proportion to the area of the land, he pointed out.
“Each Cooperative Society will have to provide the loan to at least 10 groups,” he said, adding that the loan to these landless farmers would be provided during the Kharif season this year.
“The chief minister has directed for disbursal of Rs 7200 crore as loans to farmers of which Rs 200 crore would be earmarked for disbursal to landless farmers through the joint liability groups while Rs 1,000 crore will be spent as term loan for agriculture sector,” Patro pointed out.
