Sambalpur: Following the resignation of vice-chancellor of Odisha’s Sambalpur University Sanjiv Mittal, the state government has sought applications from deserving candidates to fill up the post.
The Higher Education department, in an advertisement released on Thursday, has stated that the interested persons can apply online by October 25. He should not be more that 63 years of age by December 1.
As per the official norms for appointment of the vice-chancellor, a committee would be formed to be in charge of the selection process of the candidates. The applications received by due date would be processed and suitable candidates called for interview by the committee.
The committee would prepare a list of top three candidates during the interview and send it to the Governor, who is the chancellor of the university, to select the final candidate.
The selected candidate will hold the vice-chancellor post for 4 years or till the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier. The vice-chancellor is entitled to monthly remuneration of Rs 2.10 lakh besides Rs 11,250 special allowance.
The interested candidates can log in to the department’s official website at https://dhe.odisha.gov.in/ for further details.
It may be noted that Mittal had resigned from the vice-chancellor post following allegations of embezzlement of funds to the tune of Rs 29 lakh sanctioned for the university under a government scheme. The Governor had accepted his resignation on August 28. Chairman of PG Council of Sambalpur University is the in-charge vice-chancellor at present.
