Bhubaneswar: In a move to enforce accountability in governance, the Odisha government has asked all departments to furnish details of incompetent officials and employees. It also warned of compulsory retirement of inefficient officers and employees.
Sources said officials who fail to perform duties effectively face dismissal. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, while chairing a recent meeting, had sought a detailed report on the efficiency and work record of officers across departments.
Ahuja stressed the importance of performance reviews at multiple departmental levels to assess the effectiveness of government functionaries.
The Chief Secretary’s office subsequently issued letters to all departments, seeking complete information regarding the number of officers and employees deemed incapable of fulfilling their responsibilities.
Different departments of the government have been given a deadline to submit the required data by August 7, a senior official said.
The communication further states that a comprehensive review of the work performance of all officers and staff will be undertaken. Those found to be non-compliant with government rules and judged inefficient will be dismissed.
As per the General Administration Department’s circular dated September 24, 2019, such officers may be placed on compulsory leave pending further action.
Officers and staff who are found to be underperforming or incapable of carrying out their duties efficiently will be considered for forced retirement.
