Nabarangpur: The state government has suspended BDO and Junior Engineer of Jharigaon block in the district for allegedly siphoning the fund in the Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) scheme under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) programme.
In an official order issued on Friday, the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department suspended Jharigaon BDO Debendra Bahadur Singh Dharua and Junior Engineer Sunil Samal for resorting to irregularities in the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries under the Mission.
A few days back, hundreds of beneficiaries had lodged a complaint at Jharigaon police station alleging that the BDO had taken around Rs 5 crore for sanctioning fund for the construction of toilets. The block was sanctioned funds for 26,355 toilets, sources said.
Following the complaint, project director, DRDA, Nabarangpur had visited the block to investigate the allegation on the instruction of district collector Dr Ajit Kumar Mishra.
Recently, the beneficiaries led by the Congress leader and former Nabarangpur MP Pradip Majhi had lodged a complaint at the Jharigaon police station.
