Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has suspended Lavanyendu Mohanty, Tehsildar of Hemgiri in Sundargarh district, for alleged negligence in duty.
As per sources, action was taken by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department over allegations of neglect, corruption, and frequent absence from duty.
Mohanty reportedly abstained from an important monthly revenue meeting chaired by the District Collector without taking his permission. The tehsildar’s absence from the meeting was considered a serious offence, especially given the meeting’s importance.
The suspension order was issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management, based on a report submitted by the District Collector. Previous allegations against the tehsildar also contributed to the suspension order.
As per the order, Mohanty will be stationed at the Sundargarh Collectorate until further notice and he is prohibited from leaving the district headquarters without permission from the Collector. The tehsildar has also been ordered to immediately hand over responsibilities
A notification issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department stated, “A disciplinary proceeding against Sri Lavanyendu Mohanty, OAS-A(JB), Tahasildar, Hemgir, Dist.-Sundargarh, is under consideration. Therefore, the Governor of Odisha, under Rule-12 of OCS (CC&A) Rules, 1962, has placed him under immediate suspension.”
