Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has taken a serious view of the acquisition of land more than their requirement by several industrial units in the state.
More disturbing is the fact that many industrial units have failed to put the acquired land to proper use, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Wednesday.
Stating that many companies have acquired large patches of land for setting up industries, he said many of them have failed to utilise them even after 10 to 15 years.
On many of these plots acquired by the companies, there is no sign of industrial activity, the Minister said, adding that though the plots were acquired for setting up industrial units, no step has been taken by the companies to use the land for this.
Pujari said the Revenue Department has been given a two-month deadline to look into this matter and district Collectors have been asked to identify such cases in their respective aeas. They have been directed to prepare detailed reports on the extent of land acquired by industries, how much of it has been utilised for industrial purposes, and how much remains unused or is being misused, he said.
Based on these reports, the government will initiate steps to reclaim the unused land as per the law, the Minister added.
