Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is taking concrete measures to transform Bhubaneswar into a model city by ensuring its expansion in a balanced manner.
The capital city will be expanded beyond its existing limits to accommodate the growing population and ease traffic congestion with proper focus on housing, and public welfare, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra said.
Stating that Bhubaneswar will be transformed into a new city with modern planning, the Minister told reporters that plans are underway to include more areas under the Town Planning Scheme (TP Scheme) and expand the city limits.
Various corporations and administrative units of the city will be developed and expanded to handle the growing city and ensure its transformation in a proper way, he said, adding that Bhubaneswar will soon become a model city.
Noting that Bhubaneswar is now facing traffic and housing crisis with prices soaring, the Minister said the problem is expected to be resolved once the city expands.
Various schemes in this regard are in various stages of discussion even for other cities besides the state capital, he said.
While there are proposals for the construction of a ring road and widening existing roads for better infrastructure and connectivity, plans are also afoot to develop a tri-city comprising Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri, the Minister said.
