Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday announced in the Assembly that new ration cards would be provided to the applicants by the end of this month.
Sharing this information in the Assembly Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra said the process for e-KYC verification has already started. Similarly, the process to apply for new ration cards is also continuing in the state.
Around nine lakh people have so far applied for new ration cards and the process of issuing new ration cards is expected to completed by September end, the Minister said.
“e-KYC verification process is already underway and the application process for new ration cards is also continuing across the state,” he said.
The Minister had earlier stated that the government would exclude ineligible beneficiaries from the list of ration card beneficiaries under the Food Security Act. The government has outlined 12 criteria for inclusion of eligible families and 10 for exclusion of ineligible ones.
Officials have been directed to remove any ineligible beneficiaries from the list to ensure that only deserving families receive the ration cards.
In order to ensure accuracy and transparency, e-KYC audits are being conducted to verify the details provided by the applicants.
