Bhubaneswar: In a major restructuring of administrative boundaries, the Odisha government is all set to notify 1,635 new revenue villages soon.
The Revenue and Disaster Management Department has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure precise demarcation, avoiding overlaps with existing villages.
Officials said district collectors, RDCs, and the Director of Land Records and Survey have been directed to expedite the preparation of updated village maps and land records. Each of the newly created revenue villages will have separate land records, plot numbers, and village accounts to maintain data integrity and prevent overlap with previous records.
The move comes after growing public demands and recommendations from collectors and settlement officers from different districts.
In a letter, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department said that while only around 1,000 villages were declared revenue villages between 1991 and 2024, maps for only 300 were prepared by the previous government. The mapping for the remaining 700 villages remained incomplete.
Therefore, the state government seeks to prepare maps for both the pending 700 villages and the newly added ones, totaling 1,635 revenue villages. To ensure smooth implementation, the Revenue Minister has announced the formation of dedicated mapping cells in each tehsil.
This comprehensive mapping and boundary redefinition exercise is expected to bring administrative clarity and facilitate effective governance in newly formed and restructured revenue villages.
The new plan addresses both pending and newly added villages, bringing the total to 1,635. To ensure smooth implementation, dedicated mapping cells will be set up in every tehsil.
Officials said the initiative will bring administrative clarity, improve governance, and enhance service delivery in the newly notified areas.
