Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to postpone the annual Matric and Plus II examinations.
Announcing this on Wednesday, School and Mass Education minister Samir Ranjan Dash said that the examinations will be conducted after the students attend regular classes for at least three months.
He said that as the government has announced the closure of schools and colleges till December 31 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the examination schedule will be prepared after three months, tentatively in April.
“The state government is aware of the difficulties of the students in availing online education. Out of about 60 lakh students, about 22 lakh students are now availing the online education,” the minister said.
The minister further said that as there are no classes for 10 months since March, there will be a further slash in the courses of studies.
He, however, said that the state government will cancel the annual Matric and Plus II examinations if a decision in this regard is taken at the all-India level. If no decision is taken, then the state government will conduct the examinations, he pointed out.
To a question on the reopening of schools, he said that the state government will take a decision on the commencement of regular classes for the Class X and XII students after December 31.
The decision of the government has come as a big relief for the students and guardians.
