Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has extended the interim bail of Chilika MLA Prashant Jagadev by seven more days on health grounds.
The legislator, who was arrested on charges of ploughing his SUV into a crowd on March 12, was granted interim bail for medical treatment on April 27 and the court had asked him to surrender after seven days.
Jagadev’s counsel Abhinab Chand said that the MLA’s interim bail has now been extended till May 11. He produced a memo of the High Court’s directive in Banapur JMFC court on Wednesday.
It is pertinent to mention that the MLA had sustained grievous injuries as an irate mob assaulted him soon after he rammed his car into the crowd outside a block development office in Odisha’s Khurda district, which was a grim reminder of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
He was arrested on March 22 after being discharged from a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and lodged at Banapur Sub-Jail.
Jagadev has been charged with serious offences like attempt to murder, obstructing police personnel from performing their duty, injuring the public, and using his car as weapon to hurt people in connection with the incident in which around 25 people, including 10 police personnel, were also injured.
